thoughts on life during current change
Roughly a year and a half ago, I lost my job and was in one of the darkest places in my life. Today, I sit between a job that I worked really hard at, grew an enormous amount at, and am now leaving and a job that is a really exciting opportunity and a level I feel I haven't been to. The comparison is so wild to me.
I am very happy with where I am now in many ways. Professionally, I grew a ton while working very hard over the past year. I took steps and felt impact that I had only really dreamed about. Personally, I came out of a super dark place at the end of 2024. I feel so much more joy and belonging in my life now.
Recently, I have been doing a lot of learning as well. Some things that stick out to me are thinking about what my career looks like moving forward, how I want to spend my time, and being present in the day to day. I am reading Staff Engineer by Will Larson. Watching things like this Kelsey Hightower interview (though you can't go wrong with any of his stuff). Running and lifting more than I have in the past. And making sure I challenge myself in learning things that I feel impact my life and career.
Three quick themes that I have been exploring a lot:
- activities versus impact
- acknowledging perfection is not attainable
- minimalism
Just wanted to put down a small note on where I am. Life changes a lot especially when you don't pay it a bit of attention. I am finding it worth it to slow down and enjoy the moment. Though the ability to go slow is a privilege.
